Film & Television Hair Styling Techniques
Day: (M–F / 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. / 2 weeks) 50 hours

The following outline describes the Advanced Hairwork Course. The objective of this course is to provide Make-up artists with the additional knowledge and training for hairstyling on the set, during professional production projects. This course does not include the cutting, dying or perming of hair.

I. Lecture

Orientation and introduction to hairstyling.
Discussion of safety and sanitation for station, persons and all equipment.
Lecture on various hairstyle trends and periods.
Lecture on various techniques for hairstyling for short, medium and long hair.
Lecture on hair problems, such as curls, frizzies, straight, and fine hair.
Lecture on the safe and appropriate use of rollers, blow dryers, and curling irons.
Lecture on the safe and appropriate use of styling gels, sprays & mousse.

II. Lab

Practical application of station setup.
Practical application of use and safety of all equipment.
Practical application of hairstyling techniques, on both models and mannequins.
Practical application of hairstyles involving problem hair.
Practical application of rollers, blow dryers and curling irons.
Practical application of styling gels, sprays & mousse.
Practical application of period styles and trends.

III. Home Assignments

Hairstyle Morgues
Preparation of Mannequin long, medium and layered length.

IV. Evaluation
Practical application of techniques and critique on live Model and Mannequin
