The twelve-week H.D Professional Journeyman Make-up Artistry Materials Procedures Training session is designed to help the trainee master the skills of make-up materials application procedures necessary to be employed in film and television, still photography studio, theater, or other related fields where an individual trained in all phases of make-up artistry is typically employed. The session is offered by means of lectures and hands-on labs. The session rooms and labs are designed to duplicate the actual environment of major film and television studio make-up departments.

All phases together constitute the H.D Professional Journeyman Make-Up Artistry Materials Procedures Training Session (journeyman pro-case kit). No prerequisites required. This session equips trainees to work in film and television in an entry level capacity.

1. Beauty Make-up (120 Clock Hours)
This session introduces the trainee to the basics of Beauty make-up for motion pictures, television, still photography, and the stage. Additional topics include principles of highlighting and shading; classic beauty make-up; classic glamour make-up; natural high fashion make-up, and fantasy beauty make-up.
2. Old Age Make-up (40 Clock Hours)
This session introduces the trainee to the theory, materials, and techniques employed in creating old age make-up for motion pictures, television, and the stage.
3. Bald Cap (40 Clock Hours)
This session introduces the design, construction, and application of caps for make-up effect. Additional topics include cap painting; proper cap removal; patching and repair techniques; and the shaved head effect.
4. Hair work (Beard, Facial Hair) (40 Clock Hours)
This session covers the theory and techniques of utilizing crepe wool and real hair to create beards and mustaches including the creation of a natural hairline through overlay. The session includes the combing and fashioning of hair and the creation of the stubble effect
5. Character Make-up (Injury Simulation) (56 Clock Hours)
This session introduces the techniques for simulating various types of injuries through the use of make-up and other materials. Topics may also include make-up for characters such as mimes and clowns plus historical characters.
6. Onset Hairstyling (8 Clock Hours)
This session discusses materials and their usage by makeup artists. , modern fast up-do’s for make-up artists who are also in charge of hairstyling. Trainees will also have a power point discussion of period hairstyles and will have a demonstration on 1920’s through 1940’s hairstyles.
7. Prosthetic Monster Application (40 Clock Hours)
This session introduces the trainee to the application and coloration of prosthetic pieces and creating a prosthetic make-up character such as a boxer, an unfortunate homeless person, or a human type monster.
8. Prosthetic Make-up (80 Clock Hours)
This session introduces the trainee to the theory and techniques for the production and application of prosthetic appliances. Topics include taking the impression; positive and negative molds; sculpturing techniques; and the coloring and application of rubber appliances.
9. Phase 1 materials career/business Procedures /accounting processes/on-set and on-location materials usage/etiquette/ on-set professional demeanor (40 clock hours)
This session introduces the trainee to accounting processes vital to material usage, on location and onset training working with professional materials upon models, demonstrating materials usage to photographer to gain experience in the industry. Trainees will also take field trips to the MUATV studios and Joe Blasco Cosmetics Warehouse center and store in Palm Springs, Ca as well as a field trip to a cosmetic manufacturing research and development factory.
10 Final testing and session completion (16 Clock Hours)
Administering a final examination to cover all aspects of H.D Professional Journeyman Make-up Artistry Materials Procedures Training.
Trainees will be graded based upon their individual weekly projects. Grades will also be issued for homework. A comprehensive final exam will be given in order to determine the extent a trainee has retained the information throughout the course.
