1. Grading System

Grades and grade points represent the final measure of a trainee’s performance in a session and are based upon written tests and performance in practical and demonstration experience. The criteria for measuring a trainee’s practical skills are established through our trainers experience in the film, television and high fashion sets in the following fields: hygiene, social skills, application technique through hi-definition cameras and color matching. The grading criteria is revisited as filming technology and trends develop. Trainees are evaluated based on completion of several elements during each test period. The elements vary based upon the section of the program the test occurs. The instructor will evaluate each element and either determine “Yes” they have completed the element successfully, or “No” the trainee has not completed the element successfully. For each element completed, the trainee will receive 1 point and for each element not completed, the trainee will receive no points.

The following grades are used at Joe Blasco Make-up Artistry Materials Procedures Training Centers:

The Center expects trainees to complete all session requirements established in this catalog.  A grade of WP is assigned when the trainee voluntarily withdraws in writing from a session and the instructor determines that the trainee’s work is satisfactory at the time of withdrawal.  The WP grade is not included in the calculation of the GPA. A grade of WF is assigned when the trainee voluntarily withdraws from a course and the trainer determines that the trainee’s work is unsatisfactory at the time of withdrawal.  A WF grade has the same academic effect as an F grade when computing the GPA.  Certain courses are available as Pass/Fail.  The P grade is not included in the calculation of the GPA. (Withdrawal pass; withdrawal fail)

2. Grade Point Average (GPA)

The Grade Point Average (GPA) is a weighted average of grade points earned.  To compute the GPA, each grade is assigned an appropriate number of grade points, and the total number of hours attempted divides the total of all points earned.  Hours for all sessions attempted are counted when computing the GPA. Only passing grades count towards session completion requirements. Failed testing must be re-scheduled and carried out at the availability of the grading party and the discretion of the Center’s governing body and/or by Mr. Blasco only, as deemed by Mr. Blasco as 100% sole stockholder.

3. Clock Hours

Joe Blasco Make-up Artistry Materials Procedures Training Center is a clock hour center. One clock hour is defined as 50 minutes of instruction, demonstration, and/ or laboratory and/or workshop and/or study hall process activities.

4. Transfer of Clock Hours

Except as described in the Acceptance Policy and Credit for Prior Training for VA Attendees, clock hours earned at other institutions do not transfer.

5. Transferability to Other Institutions

Trainees expecting to transfer hours from Joe Blasco Make-up Artistry Materials Procedures Training Center to other post-secondary institutions must verify with the intended school the transferability of hours earned at the Center.  Transferability of credits should not be considered automatic. We do not have any agreements with other institutions to transfer credits.

*NOTICE CONCERNING TRANSFERABILITY OF CREDITS AND CREDENTIALS EARNED AT OUR INSTITUTION*

The transferability of credits you earn at Joe Blasco Make-Up Artistry Materials Procedures Training Centers is at the complete discretion of an institution to which you may seek to transfer. 6. Session Repetitions

A trainee may repeat any session (or portion of a session) in which a grade has been earned, provided he/ she pays for the original session. An exception will be made for a trainee who can document that poor performance in a session was the result of one of the following mitigating circumstances:

  1. Death in the Family
  2. Military Duty
  3. Jury Duty
  4. Documented Extended Illness

A trainee may repeat a session that he/she failed or did not complete; however, the trainee would be expected to complete the session within the maximum time frame.  The repeat grade will be used in calculating the grade point average.

7. Withdrawals

Withdrawal requests must be submitted in writing to the Center Director.  A grade of WP is assigned when the trainee voluntarily withdraws from a session within the allowed time period and the trainer determines that the trainee’s work is satisfactory at the time of withdrawal.  A grade of WF is assigned when the trainee voluntarily withdraws from a session within the allowed time period and the trainer determines that the trainee’s work is unsatisfactory at the time of withdrawal.  A WF grade has the same effect as an F grade when computing the satisfactory academic progress.

Official Withdrawal:

An official withdrawal is defined as a trainee who requests a withdrawal in writing. The withdrawal date is the date the trainee notified the center of his/her intention to withdraw.

Unofficial Withdrawal:

For trainees who withdraw without notifying the center and who have not communicated with the center for a two week approved period, the center will consider that the trainee has unofficially withdrawn. The last day of attendance will then be used as the withdrawal date for calculating any refund owed the trainee or any amount owed the center.
